Sojourner Tours Women's Wellness Retreat: Finding Everyday Joy, Releasing Emotional Burdens, and Creating Your Unique Space

Living in a home where the interior design makes you feel rich with joie de vivre (joy of living) isn’t a luxury reserved for the ultra wealthy. No money? No problem. Sojourner Tours invites you to a transformative Women’s Wellness Retreat designed to help you release emotional baggage, simplify AND beautify your space, while cultivating a life of peace, clarity, and joy through a number of discussions and workshops centered on interior design and our material possessions. This immersive day will guide you through powerful decluttering practices, self-discovery, and practical decorating tools to create a positive and gratifying living environment that supports your well-being, increases your pleasure all while embracing your unique journey.

In this retreat, you’ll first explore how to manage what you already own by thinking about how your physical environment directly influences your mental, emotional, and spiritual health and learning strategies inspired by Japanese principles of tidying up your space. Next, you’ll start thinking about how to fill your home with stylish, fun and quirky accents that elevate your mood without breaking your budget by: taking a new look at the idea that “one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure” and an exploration of a range of upcycling practices around the world from Japan to Senegal and even England; becoming familiar with the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi which is beloved by the French; and ending with the contemporary French philosophy of Simplexité. By the end of the day, you will return home ready to create intentional, functional spaces that reflect your authentic self.

DISCUSSION Spacial use and conceptions in France, Japan and the United States

You’ll start the day with a self-evaluation of your priorities and values and then examine how the space where you live reflects and supports your personal principles or (if it doesn’t) how it could. To help, there will be a brief discussion of the cultural differences in how space is used in Western and Eastern homes to help you perceive of options you may not realize are there, and choices you don’t realize you’ve made -because “that’s just how it’s done”. Lisa will be your enthusiastic guide in this talk which draws from one of her greatest loves. (Before starting SOJO, Lisa was working toward a PhD and the Japanese government gave her a research grant to study the relationship between the work of a mid-century French/Swiss architect (Le Corbusier) and Japanese traditional houses which opened her eyes to cultural influences in how we live in our homes!) You’ll walk away with knowledge that will enable you to organize your space to more intentionally support the things you consider most significant and essential in the way you live (or want to live).
