RAISE YOUR SELF-AWARENESS ~ Un Remède de Grand-Mère! Emotions & Herbal Wisdom
DATE: TBA
LOCATION: Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas
Sojourner Tours invites you to a transformative day retreat where you’ll learn to better connect with your authentic self, honor your needs better and explore the traditional soothing qualities of herbs. Drawing inspiration from the herbal wisdom from around the world and other cultures, this retreat will hone your ability to read natural cues that enable you to align with your true self, your needs and your desires while also discovering the benefits of embracing both your emotional and physical well-being through the time-tested qualities of herbs and mindful self-care. If you’ve ever felt disconnected from your own needs, suppressed your emotions for the sake of others, or ignored your intuition, this retreat is the perfect opportunity to return to your inner wisdom.
DISCUSSION 1: Recognizing When You're Straying from Your True Self
In this session, Lisa, owner of Sojourner Tours, will guide you through an exploration of how societal expectations and childhood conditioning can lead us to abandon our authentic selves. Many women have been raised to prioritize others’ needs over their own, resulting in feelings of being unseen, unheard, and disconnected. Through small group activities, we’ll work to uncover how this “good girl” mentality manifests and start identifying when we’re out of alignment with our true selves, setting the stage for honoring our emotions and needs going forward.

DISCUSSION 2: Reexamining "Negative" Emotions as Positive Signals
In this session, Lisa will lead a discussion on how emotions like anger, fear, guilt, and sadness should not be viewed as “negative” or suppressed, but rather as important and helpful signals that guide us toward healthier, more authentic relationships. These emotions can offer insight into our needs and boundaries, and when harnessed, can foster self-love and personal growth but also -if handled functionally- can improve our relationships with others. You’ll participate in exercises to identify what your emotions are signaling and how to transform them into positive behaviors that support your well-being and relationships.

TALK: Herbal Properties for Emotional and Physical Realignment
(TENTATIVE: subject to change) Join an expert herbalist from Sanctuary Kitchen for a session focused on ancient herbal wisdom. You’ll learn how culinary herbs, teas and essential oils can be integrated into your daily routine to support both emotional and physical health. This talk will cover the healing properties of herbs like lavender, peppermint and thyme, showing you how these herbs can help you reconnect with your intuition, calm your mind, and restore balance. Recipes for incorporating these herbs into your meals and beverages will be shared, empowering you to realign with your natural rhythms.
DISCUSSION 3: The Global Culture of Tea—A Self-Love Ritual Across Continents
Tea is more than just a drink; it’s a global tradition woven into the fabric of cultures worldwide. In this discussion, Lisa will share her personal experiences in India, Japan, Ireland, France, and other countries reflecting on how tea rituals in these cultures play a role in mindfulness, self-care, and community. From the calm and focus brought by green tea in Japan to the cozy, communal rituals of tea-drinking in Ireland, each culture uses tea to nourish the body and soul in different ways. We’ll explore how herbal teas with mood-boosting properties, as well as caffeinated teas, can enhance our emotional well-being. Whether it's the calming effects of chamomile, the invigorating properties of black tea, or the healing power of ginger, herbal and caffeinated teas offer valuable ways to support our health and self-love. As Lisa reflects on how these tea traditions have been passed down through generations (often by grandmothers), you’ll also learn how to incorporate tea into your own self-care practices as a way to ground yourself, relax, and reconnect with your true self.
